Guards shoot man outside strip club

It happened just after 2am at the Player's Club on Bissonnet near the Southwest Freeway. Police tell Eyewitness News security guards escorted a club patron out of the strip club because he was on stage dancing with the dancers, which is prohibited.

After that man was taken outside, he opened the trunk of his car and that's when police say he pulled out a gun.

Two security guards patrolling the parking lot pulled up next to him and drew their weapons. Police say the club-goer fired at the security guards, prompting both guards to fire in defense, striking the man in the left side and in the rear.

"They were pretty close to him because they approached him to tell him, 'Let me see your hands, drop the gun,' that kind of thing," said Sgt. Michelle Gallagher with the Houston Police Department. "That is when he turned around and took the gun and started firing it towards them."

The security guards weren't injured in the incident. The man who was shot was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery.

Police are still interviewing several witnesses at the scene.
