Husband killed wife while she cooked dinner

NACOGDOCHES, TX A jury in Nacogdoches on Friday decided the penalty for 40-year-old Kyle Barnhill of San Augustine, who also was fined $10,000.

Jurors on Thursday took less than 30 minutes to convict Barnhill in the slaying of Melissa Kesinger Barnhill at her home in Nacogdoches.

Police say the 38-year-old woman was preparing dinner for her two children when she was shot through a kitchen window. She died of a gunshot wound to the neck.

Police say the Barnhills had separated and were divorcing. Barnhill, who confessed to the killing, was arrested March 16 in the Eagle Pass area.
