FBI agents arrest 'Grandma Bandit'

HOUSTON Members of the Houston FBI Bank Robbery Task Force arrested Theresa Gaas of the 1100 block of Egypt in Houston. She was arrested in her vehicle near the residence. The vehicle was a white Chevrolet, which officials say matches the description of a vehicle seen leaving the two banks she is accused of robbing last week.

The FBI says 56-year-old Gaas is the so-called "Grandma Bandit." Wearing a camouflage ball cap, purple shirt complete with purple feathers, the "Grandma Bandit" was caught on surveillance cameras during a holdup at the BBVA Compass Bank at West 43 St. at 12:40pm Friday afternoon. One hour later, she reappeared at the Compass Bank at West 19 St. in The Heights. Both times she threatened to fire a weapon and demanded cash.

Gaas was arrested without incident. Investigators credit good investigative work, coupled with cooperation from the public, for this arrest.
