The statement said Courtois, with the 366th Security Forces Squadron based at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, died while on duty.
An Air Force spokesman, Sgt. Brian Stives, told The Associated Press that he could not release further details on the incident, which is under investigation.
The airman is survived by his wife and two stepchildren.
