Man drives off ferry ramp

September 22, 2009 11:34:12 AM PDT
Rescue crews searched for hours when a car plummeted into the water after going off the Bolivar ferry ramp in Galveston. Ship traffic was shut down while divers looked for victims. Police say the driver went around cones and barricades before going up the ramp and into the water. Witnesses say workers were trying to flag him down and tell him to stop, but the man just kept going.

Divers found an Asian adult male was the lone occupant of the car. He has not been identified. The body has been taken to the medical examiner's office.

Authorities hope surveillance camera video might help shed light on why the man drove past all the markings to stop.
