SUV rollover accident leaves one dead

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX One of those hospitalized was an 11-year-old girl, who was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. She is reportedly with critical condition with a head injury. She was one of the 11 people riding inside the Ford Explorer when it rolled off of I-45 near FM 1488 and onto the feeder road around midnight. The majority of the others injured are listed as stable.

Conroe police say the SUV was only designed to carry five people and the extra weight may have caused a mechanical failure. Officers say most of the 11 passengers were ejected and the driver died at the scene.

Police say the passengers ranged in age from 6 months to 51 years old.

"Nobody was secured in the vehicle, no child seats and no seatbelts," said Sgt. Jon Buckholtz with the Conroe Police Department.

Police say all but the 51-year-old appeared to be related.

The feeder road was shut down for a couple of hours as emergency crews worked the scene but it has since reopened.
