Former coach accused of soliciting young girl

HOUSTON Sugar Land police went online themselves to catch the suspect in action. They say at the time he was around kids as a coach and has children of his own.

The trouble for Paul Mahan started online, according to Sugar Land police. They say he thought he was communicating with a girl under 14 years of age when he allegedly emailed a nude picture of himself. But on the other end was a police officer.

Soon, officers came after him. Mahan was arrested at his Pearland-area place of employment, Allied Fire Protection, and charged with online solicitation of a minor.

It was all part of what police call an online predator sting. Mahan stands out because he was a volunteer coach with at least two junior sports leagues. Both Friendswood Little League and Friendswood Broncos Football confirm his association.

Mahan didn't return our call seeking a response. When we went to his Friendswood home, his daughter and her friend greeted us, girls about the same age to whom he's accused of sending the nude picture.

Both sports leagues declined to comment. They did say that Mahan is not associated with them any longer. Mahan is out of jail on $25,000 bond.
