Sunrise service in Galveston marks 1 year anniv.

GALVESTON, TX [IKE ANNIVERSARY: Look back at the storm that changed SE Texas]

Ministers of different faiths are expected to speak in Galveston on Sunday during a service at one of the city's historic hotels along the beach.

The service is part of a nearly weeklong series of events to highlight rebuilding and recovery efforts in the year since Ike made landfall just outside Galveston in the early morning hours of Sept. 13, 2008.

The hurricane damaged 75 percent of the city's homes and wreaked havoc across other communities on the southeast Texas Gulf Coast.

Neighborhoods around Galveston are expected to hold block parties and cook outs later Sunday to reconnect.
