Man dies after altercation with police

McALLEN, TX They've identified the man as Adan Olvera Jr. of Mission. The Monitor reports police suspected Olvera was driving drunk when they stopped his car Sunday.

Police Sgt. Jody Tittle said Tuesday that when the officer tried to arrest Olvera, he fought free, fled on foot, then doubled back to his car and drove off, hitting two police cars.

After Olvera was stopped and pulled from his car again, he continued to struggle and vomited before collapsing. An ambulance was called, but Olvera was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police await autopsy and toxicology test results.

Tittle says that no guns or Tasers were used in the altercation.
