Volunteers spruce up SE Houston man's home

HOUSTON Yesterday, good Samaritans mowed the lawn and painted a home on Theresa near Mayflower. Homeowner Leroy Turner says he can no longer do the work himself.

"They're gonna do some yard work, and I got a screen door and everything out there," he said. "They're going to put the door on, paint the door."

A non-profit group called 'Hearts and Hammers' organized the home renovation project in Houston's Sunnyside community. Volunteers started the program last month. This is the second home they've restored.

City councilmember Wanda Adams was also involved.
