August 26, 2009 1:55:27 PM PDT
The Houston Police Department has become the first law enforcement agency in Texas to use new crime-fighting gadgets. Blue Check Mobile Identification Devices allow officers to digitally scan fingerprints of persons under reasonable suspicion. Officers then check the prints against HPD and FBI criminal databases and get back results in three minutes or less.

HPD has 77 Blue Check devices linked to the FBI database.
