'Zebra squad' nabs more suspected parole violators

Precinct Six Constable Victor Trevino's so-called "zebra squad" busted two more parole violators Thursday. The squad arrested Daniel James Starr, who was out on parole for an attempted murder conviction from 1987. Police say Starr and a second suspect badly beat a man over a debt, and left him for dead. Deputy constables also arrested Bailey Dean Gans for violating his parole on drug charges.

"We were able to get a lot of people off the street and make the community a safer place for everybody knowing that these offenders are off the street," said Sgt. Juilo Banda of the Harris Co. Pct 6 Constable's Office. "They range everywhere from parole violations to sex offenders to burglary, assault, those type of warrants."

Constable Trevino recently re-activated the Zebra Squad. In the past four months, the squad has arrested about 20 parole violators.
