'Zebra squad' nabs more suspected parole violators

HOUSTON The squad arrested Daniel James Starr, who was out on parole for an attempted murder conviction from 1987. Police say Starr and a second suspect badly beat a man over a debt, and left him for dead. Deputy constables also arrested Bailey Dean Gans for violating his parole on drug charges.

"We were able to get a lot of people off the street and make the community a safer place for everybody knowing that these offenders are off the street," said Sgt. Juilo Banda of the Harris Co. Pct 6 Constable's Office. "They range everywhere from parole violations to sex offenders to burglary, assault, those type of warrants."

Constable Trevino recently re-activated the Zebra Squad. In the past four months, the squad has arrested about 20 parole violators.
