Mayor wants term limits analyzed

HOUSTON During Wednesday's city council meeting, the mayor said he wants voters to have an option on the November ballot to create a commission. That group would look into the strengths and weaknesses of adjusting term limits.

The mayor is on his way out after reaching the six-year limit. He says the move would not help him in any way, rather he just wants to start public discussion about the idea.

"Just to examine how it's worked and to see if there are any recommendations," said Mayor White.

The mayor says he wants to examine the issue before census numbers are released in April 2011. At that time, the city will add two council seats, raising the total number of council members to 16.
