Four arrested for aggravated robberies

CONROE, TX In the early morning hours of August 10, Conroe Police officers and investigators responded to two reported aggravated robberies near the intersection of East Davis Street and North First Street, near the center of the city.

Conroe Police Communications officers received the first 911 call at approximately 4am. The caller stated that he and two friends had been assaulted and robbed by four black male subjects. The victims gave arriving officers descriptions of the suspects and a possible getaway vehicle description.

Upon completing the first robbery, the subjects then apparently ran approximately 75 to 100 yards where they allegedly assaulted and robbed a fourth victim who was apparently sleeping on a picnic table near the rear of the Conroe Courier business office located in the 100 block of Avenue A. The fourth victim stated he was awakened by the subjects and they assaulted him and robbed him. One of the subjects allegedly displayed a black color handgun and threatened the victim during the robbery. Both of the robberies occurred in less than two minutes and within a close proximity.

Arriving patrol officers began searching the area for the subjects and vehicle and located a white Dodge truck at the intersection of South 3rd Street and Avenue. The vehicle was occupied by two black males in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and two males in the bed of the truck. The vehicle was parked in the roadway with its lights on. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle began moving. The vehicle eventually stopped near North Third Street and East Davis, approximately two blocks from where the robberies occurred. Officers detained the subjects and later recovered a black BB gun which resembled a semi-automatic pistol near the roadway where the vehicle was originally parked.

According to police, the subjects were detained and were later identified as the group that had committed the robberies. Additional evidence recovered at the scene further confirmed the subjects were the ones that committed the robberies.

Robert James Harrell, 18, Jermaine Demitrus Brown, 17, Howard Douglas Abbs, Jr., 26, and a 15-year-old juvenile were all charged with aggravated robbery, robbery and engaging in organized criminal activity. The 15-year-old was taken to Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center. The other suspects were taken to the Montgomery County Jail where Harrell and Abbs are being held on $110,000 bond. Brown's bond has been set at $120,000.

Information learned during the interviews indicated there were possibly two additional suspects that remain at large. The robberies are still under investigation.
