One dead after SUV plows into home

HOUSTON Just after 2am, the driver of a Ford Explorer lost control of the vehicle, plowed through a fence and smashed into a home on Harwin near Boone. The driver was taken to an area hospital. His passenger was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but died from his injuries.

We've learned that the two people in the SUV were both 16 years old. The driver, who survived, is a student at Alief Hastings High School.

Police say five people were inside the home at the time of the crash. Those residents heard the crash and called authorities.

"All of a sudden people, people were shouting," said James Bagabagon, who lives in the home. "I didn't hear the actual bang of the Ford Explorer hitting the house, but as soon as I came out, I saw this big car inside the house and everybody was freaking out."

Bagabagon tells us his brother was on the computer, which is just about 10 feet away from the where the SUV ended up. Fortunately, no one inside the house was injured.

At this time, we don't know what led to the accident, but police say they do believe the driver was speeding.

The SUV remains embedded deep into the home. The stretch of Harwin on which the home sits is closed off while police investigate.
