"They were wonderful next door neighbors," said neighbor Kathy Guglielmo.
The Guglielmos were devastated to learn that on Friday night near Pensacola, Florida, their young neighbor, John, along with his 18-year-old brother, Anthony, and grandmother, Nadia, died in a traffic accident. Also in the van, but surviving the wreck were parents, Eman and Hany Awad, and their other son, 14-year-old Daniel.
They were all in the family's van heading east on Interstate 10. According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Eman Awad was driving when the van went into the median. They say she over-corrected and the van went spinning and flipping.
"I've talked to my son and just told him that he is going to have to be there for Daniel, to support him and help him in any way that he can because it is going to be very tough for him," said Guglielmo.
"It's going to be kind of weird because usually John and Daniel, both of them would come out and now probably, it's only going to be Daniel," said 14-year-old T.J. Guglielmo.
Neighbors say it's impossible to imagine only half the Awad family will return to their neighborhood.
"It's just very difficult to process," said Kathy. "I don't know what to say, just keep them in your prayers."
Officers say only two people in the van were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
