Condemned serial killer wins reprieve

LIVINGSTON, TX David Leonard Wood was scheduled to be executed Thursday. The court said late Wednesday that Wood is entitled to a hearing to pursue claims he's mentally impaired and ineligible for execution under U.S. Supreme Court guidelines.

Three of the court's nine judges, including Chief Judge Sharon Keller, would have dismissed Wood's appeal.

The 52-year-old Wood has insisted he's innocent of the murders that terrorized El Paso in 1987.
