Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt on Wednesday commented on the city missing out on federal funds to pay for the hiring of additional police officers. [THE LIST: See which cities received federal funding]

The government decided the city of Cleveland needs money for another police officer more than Houston needed funds for more officers.

Chief Hurtt says the government did not deny their request and HPD remains under consideration should additional funds become available. The chief also said Houston is a major city with transnational and local gangs and one of seven major cities with the highest risk of terrorist attack.
