Houston native sentenced in assassination plot

HOUSTON Ahmed Omar Abu Ali was originally sentenced to 30 years in prison when he was convicted in 2005, but an appeals court sent back the case, saying the sentence was too lenient. The new sentence was handed down Monday by a federal judge, and it takes into account that Abu Ali never turned on Al-Qaida or renounced terror activities.

Abu Ali grew up in Virginia and joined the terror group while in college in Saudi Arabia.
