Public Safety will meet over HFD diversity

July 24, 2009 7:01:29 PM PDT
The Public Safety and Homeland Security Office of Houston will hold a special meeting to talk about the escalating racial issues involving the Houston Fire Department. The meeting is set for Monday afternoon to talk about recent incidents. Over the last year, a noose was found inside a captain's locker, and just this month, racist remarks were left on the lockers of two female firefighters.

Mayor Bill White has recommended that two law firms perform a review of the department when it comes to diversity, but city council put those plans on hold.
