Mayor White wants firms to look into HFD

HOUSTON The department has been the focus recently of two high-profile incidents. One involved possible harassment of female firefighters. The other involved a noose. The mayor says the law firms, Thompson and Horton and Lemond and Lemond, will work jointly to review policies and recommend practices to work on diversity and conflict resolution.

"The fire dept has been discussing the issues with the mayor and they support his efforts," said HFD Chief Phil Boriske. "HFD welcomes outside help in order to strengthen the department. With obstacles come opportunity."

Mayor White is set to take it to city council next week for approval. The cost of the contract would be about $190,000.
