New indecency charge in library case

FRIENDSWOOD, TX Thomas Whitmarsh, 68, of Pearland, was arrested today for indecency with a child by exposure. Whitmarsh had previously been arrested when police were called to the Friendswood Public Library on Thursday, July 9 after a library employee observed Whitmarsh, allegedly exposing himself and masturbating while seated in an open area of the library.

The current charge was filed yesterday and a warrant was obtained today for an offense that involved a young library patron who reported to police that Whitmarsh was engaged in the same lewd activity on June 1, 2009 at the Friendswood Public Library. The victim made the outcry as a result of the media coverage of Whitmarsh's arrest on July 9. Police officials will not release any information regarding the age and sex of Whitmarsh's victim in this case.

Since the time of his arrest on July 9, Friendswood Police were informed by city employees that Whitmarsh had also been frequenting the Senior Center located in the 400 block of Morningside, a short distance from the library. Whitmarsh was issued a criminal trespass warning for this city facility on July 14. There have been no incidents of lewd conduct reported from this location at this time.

Police officials believe there may be other victims, adult and juvenile, who have yet to come forward.
