Fire at Dallas high-rise apt. complex

July 15, 2009 1:56:35 PM PDT
A multi-alarm fire broke out at a high-rise apartment complex in southwest Dallas, forcing the evacuation of some elderly residents. Thick black smoke was billowing from atop the 11-story structure Wednesday afternoon, but within an hour firefighters appeared to have the blaze under control.

About 10 firefighters could be seen on the roof of the structure, where the fire appeared to be concentrated. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

A few elderly people were seen being escorted out of the building. One person was placed on a gurney, but her condition was not immediately available.

The smoke could be seen in far north Dallas, about 10 miles away.
