Body of ex-Cubs player found

POLK COUNTY, TX Investigators say Jessie Hollins, 39, was out fishing with relatives Thursday on the Polk County side of the Trinity River when he disappeared. Then on Friday around 4pm, searchers recovered Hollins' body in the area close to where he was reported to have entered the water.

"We had a lot of help out here and everyone worked together really well," Texas Game Warden Capt. Shawn Phillips said. "I'm glad we were finally able to make a recovery and that Mr. Hollins' family can have some closure."

Game wardens, the Polk Co. Sheriff's Office, Texas EquuSearch, the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office Dive Team, the Trinity River Authority and the Scenic Loop Volunteer Fire Department helped in the search Friday.

A family friend tells Eyewitness News Hollins was with at least one of sons and his brother yesterday wade fishing in the area. That friend said Hollins tried to help a boater whose line had gotten stuck, but instead, got into trouble himself in the water.

According to ESPN.com, Hollins' was a pitcher for th Cubs in 1992 and pitched 4.2 innings. Hollins is originally from Conroe and lived in Willis.
