Economy down, traffic stays the same

The sinking economy has meant less traffic congestion for most of the nation, but not in Houston. Using data from 2007, the most recent available, researchers found that Houstonians spent 56 hours a year stuck in congested traffic. That's the same as the year before.

Los Angeles was number one with 70 hours spent in traffic, but that was down two hours from 2006. Number two was Washington D.C which saw an increase of two hours to 62 hours, and Atlanta dropped slightly to 57 hours for third place.

The national average time lost was 36.1 hours, down from 36.6 a year earlier.
