Firefighters targeted in hate crime hire attorney

HOUSTON The attorney plans to outline the allegations in a complaint filed by one of those firefighters last week. The female firefighter claimed she was being harassed by male firefighters because she's a woman.

The formal complaint filed with the office of inspector general is now being investigated. It could take three months to a year to complete that investigation.

On Tuesday morning the two female firefighters reported to work at Station 54 near Bush Intercontinental Airport and were met with racially charged graffiti that was also sexual in nature. The disparaging remarks were discovered in the female firefighters' quarters. One was written on a door. Other racial slurs, we are told, were found throughout their quarters as well. An investigation is underway.
