Inmate escapes from authorities

July 7, 2009 2:35:16 PM PDT
The search is on around downtown Longview for a handcuffed 31-year-old drug suspect who broke away from deputies outside the Gregg County Jail on Tuesday. Gregg County sheriff's Lt. Mike Claxton says Michael Dantae Fagan was arrested earlier Tuesday near Interstate 20 and Texas 42. He was brought to the entrance to the booking area of the county jail when he broke free of deputies and fled on foot.

Deputies and Longview police chased him through the lunchtime crowds on the streets of downtown Longview before he got away.

Authorities describe Fagan as standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and was last seen wearing a white muscle shirt, plaid shorts -- and handcuffs.
