Brush, grass fires rip through area

HOUSTON Firefighters said the fire started in a large field in northeast Houston. The fire was whipping through dry high grass and shrubs.

HFD put out the fire and had it under control before it spread to any nearby houses.

Another fire destroyed about 50 acres of brush in parts of Montgomery, Liberty, and Harris Counties. Firefighters closely watched the flames and kept them away from surrounding neighborhoods.

No word yet on what started that fire.
