June 24, 2009 4:52:32 PM PDT
Record numbers of people are visiting public swimming pools in our area, and now the city says it needs to hire more lifeguards. The Houston Parks and Recreation Department says it has seen a 27% increase in pool usage by city residents.

The department is hoping to hire 40 to 60 more lifeguards. The positions are available right now, and free certification classes are set for next week.
