Deputy constable found collapsed near car

HOUSTON Harris County Precinct 3 Deputy Constable Rex Evans was transported by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is currently in a medically-induced coma.

We're told Deputy Evans was in a training class inside this morning when he began to feel ill and left. Deputy Evans then texted a co-worker that he was feeling worse and was going to take himself to the hospital.

But he apparently didn't make it that far. A civilian found Deputy Evans collapsed by his cruiser near Beltway 8 and West Lake Houston Parkway in northeast Harris County and used the deputy constable's two-way radio to call for help.

There was a delay in getting him to the hospital because he had to be stabilized before being loaded onto the helicopter.

"He was laying on the concrete and when they checked his temperature, it was high because of the heat, because of him being face down on the concrete," said Captain Jack Hagee with the Precinct 3 Constables Office. "So they put ice on him to bring down his body temperature."
