Voters have decided on a new council member in Houston's District H. It's Houston police officer Ed Gonzalez. The count is in and he received 61 percent of the vote. Former public high school teacher Maverick Welsh received 39 percent of the vote.

The seat covers the Heights and parts of northeast Houston. Gonzalez says he's well positioned to tackle crime issues.

The winner replaces Adrian Garcia, who gave up the seat when he became Harris County sheriff.
