Church fire ruled arson

HOUSTON Witnesses reported hearing an explosion shortly before seeing flames shoot out of the former Bible Way Baptist Church over the weekend. The former church on Andrews near Matthews had been abandoned for several years, and neighbors say the building was being used by drug dealers and users.

The fire is still under investigation.

This is the third church destroyed in this neighborhood in recent years. One just across the street burned down after a lightning strike three years ago. Another collapsed last year.
