Officer opens fire on suspect in SW Houston

HOUSTON It all started with a robbery call at a convenience store on Walnut Bend near Meadowglen in southwest Houston Saturday morning. Investigators say the officer arrived to find the suspect beating a man in the store. The suspect ran out the back door and toward a nearby condominium complex.

Police say the man repeatedly ignored orders to drop his weapon.

"The suspect at that point turns toward the officer with the gun in his hand," said Victor Senties with the Houston Police Department. "The officer, in fear of his life, discharges his weapon several times, did not hit the suspect, and the suspect was taken into custody a short time after that."

Investigators are looking for an accomplice they believe was also in the store but managed to escape.
