Firefighter suffers heat exhaustion battling fire

May 31, 2009 5:57:46 AM PDT
Heavy fire broke out at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. It happened at the St. James apartments on Fondren and Wanda. When Houston firefighters arrived on the scene around 10pm last night, they found flames shooting from the second floor.

Initially they had to go defensive because of the heavy fire. But it didn't take them long to get the situation under control, and they were able to keep the blaze from spreading.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion. All of the renters got out safely. The cause is under investigation.
