Woman's body found on roadway

It happened just before 5am just off the North Loop at McCarty. Police say the victim is a 39-year-old black female, a woman who apparently lived near the area. An officer working the scene says he recognized the woman because he had arrested her just last month.

A motorcyclist saw the victim and told authorities she was stumbling around in the roadway. By the time he passed her and turned off into a nearby parking lot, she was lying on the roadway.

Authorities say a dump truck driver thought the body in the road was a tarp and ran over it. When he realized what it was, he turned around. The driver of that truck stopped and waited for help, but police say the woman was dead when they arrived.

Investigators say it wasn't the dump truck driver who initially hit the woman. They don't have a description of the vehicle they believe did.

Investigators say there was a great deal of alcohol found near the body. The victim's identity hasn't been released.
