The Humane Society there brought in 32 rat terriers and a cocker spaniel rescued from deplorable conditions in a suspected puppy mill. Officials also found a barrel full of dead puppies. The dogs were kept in rabbit cages with as many as three dogs per cage.

"What we're doing right now at the Houston SPCA is we're going to check them over medically," explained Houston SPCA spokesperson Meera Nandlal. "We're also going to have them looked over for their behavior and hopefully we can place those animals up for adoption."

The Waco Humane Society is housing the remaining dogs seized in the raid.
