A Texas man is charged with killing his wife when he crashed their car into a house in upstate New York, where they were visiting relatives. State police say 41-year-old Paul Sonnenmeier of the Dallas suburb of Mesquite is charged with vehicular manslaughter, as well as driving while ability impaired by drugs and marijuana possession.

They say he drove off of a road and struck a house around 9:30 a.m. Monday. His 45-year-old wife, Linda Hosler, died at a hospital.

Troopers say Sonnenmeier had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

He was treated for minor injuries and is free on $5,000 cash bail pending an appearance in Pendleton Town Court Wednesday. Court officials say Tuesday he doesn't yet have a lawyer.
