It broke out just after midnight on Ludington at Fondren in southwest Houston. Firefighters were called to the Ludington apartments and found heavy fire coming from a second floor unit.
Three people from the burning apartment were treated for smoke inhalation on the scene.
Two units were damaged by the fire. Four others had smoke and water damage.
Residents say they had been having electrical problems, but investigators have not determined what started the fire.
