It happened this morning on San Jacinto near Commerce in downtown Houston. Precinct 1 Deputy Constable Brandon Peyton was on his bike when he tried to pull over a woman in a black four-door Volvo for a traffic violation.

He parked his bike at the front left fender of the vehicle. As he walked up to the driver's side window, the driver opened her door and hit the gas, striking Peyton.

She then ran over his bike as she fled the scene. She was last seen heading east on I-10. A sheriff's deputy got in his squad car and tried to chase her down, but lost her.

"We have a pretty good idea who this person is," said Chief J.C. Mosier with the Precinct 1 Harris County Constable's Office. "The police department and sheriff's department is working on that right now. They're trying to find her."

The license plate is HBX099. That female driver had a male passenger in the vehicle with her. Investigators say she might have just gotten out of jail for driving with a suspended license and may have been on her way to see her bondsman.

If and when she's caught, she could be facing aggravated assault charges.

As for Peyton, he's been treated for a sore back and minor abrasions and is expected to be OK.
