On Friday, April 3, a Fort Bend ISD school bus left Crockett Middle School at approximately 4:10pm. Rather than taking the route to deliver students to their homes, the bus driver, for an unknown reason, drove off route and did not stop the bus until the bus arrived at the intersection of FM 1464 and the West Park Toll Road at approximately 5pm.

Students began notifying their parents via cell phone that the bus driver was driving off route. Fort Bend ISD Police and the Fort Bend County's Sheriff's Office were also notified and met the bus when it stopped. Fortunately no students were injured, although it was reported that some did exit the rear of the bus at times when the driver slowed down and came to a stop.

The driver was taken back to the Fort Bend ISD Transportation Facility, and was questioned by police. The driver has resigned and is no longer an employee with Fort Bend ISD. The driver had been employed with FBISD since October 2008, and has no disciplinary reports on her record.

There are still unanswered questions regarding this unusual incident, and a police investigation is ongoing. Students have provided conflicting accounts of what happened, but the investigation will continue until an outcome has been determined. There was no video camera on the bus.

A parent letter was sent home with all Crockett students on Monday.
