Former Custer County Sheriff Mike Burgess was sentenced Tuesday on felony charges that included five counts of second-degree rape. The jury that convicted him had recommended that he serve 94 years in prison.
Burgess was accused of using his power over female inmates and drug court defendants to force them into having sex with him, an allegation that first surfaced in a federal lawsuit against Burgess filed in 2007.
