Back in January, the company announced plans to slice some five percent of its workforce. That included about 100 jobs in Houston. The company says another round of job cuts -- about the same size -- will be likely in the coming months. The company has not yet said if that includes any jobs in Houston.
Low crude prices has led to less work for Schlumberger.
According to the latest numbers available from the Texas Workforce Commission, Houston's unemployment rate rose to 6.5 percent in January. That's its highest point since July of 2004. The national unemployment rate sits at 7.6 percent.
