Boy, 3, killed in house fire

PALMVIEW, TX Family members identified the child as Rodolfo Tijerina. Family members tried to rescue the child after the fire broke out about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, but were forced back by intense heat and smoke. His aunt, Yadira Rodriguez, tells The Monitor of McAllen that Rodolfo was hiding under a bed and held out his arms and cried for help as she and her mother vainly attempted his rescue.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
