On Monday, March 9, 2009, an unconscious three-year-old female child was transported to Oak Bend Hospital from the child's pediatrician's office at the Richmond Professional Building. The child appeared to be in toxic shock and suffering from appendicitis. She died a short time later at Oak Bend Hospital. A Justice of the Peace was called to Oak Bend Hospital and signed an order for an autopsy to be conducted on the child.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office conducted the autopsy on the child and determined the child's death was the result of blunt force trauma to the area of her abdomen.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office was notified and began an investigation into the death of the child. During the investigation detectives obtained a confession from the child's stepfather, Timothy Morales. An arrest warrant was issued by 328th District Court Judge Ronald R. Pope for the arrest of Morales, 31, on charges of Injury to a Child Serious Bodily Injury.

Morales was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 shortly before 3am, with his bond being set at $500,000.
