Big consignment sale caters to moms

HOUSTON The consigning concept is called Just Between Friends and it's run by moms for moms. The sale is unique in that it takes place only twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. From newborn to pre-teens, it's one stop shopping under one roof.

Jill Obelink owns an online children's boutique, and to make room for her spring arrivals, she is consigning.

"I have a lot of things that I marked down quite a lot," she told us.

For example:

- A brand new designer dress retails for $82, on consignment its $35.
- Clothes for boys and girls start at newborn and go all the way up to size 14. But it's not just clothes, there's a selection of baby furniture that ranges in price from $15 - $50.
- Baby swings and strollers are $10 and up.
- Big toys start at $10.
- There are also tables full of shoes like brand new Stride Rite sneakers. Normally they retail for $40, here they are $12.
- Need new bedding for a crib? A brand new eight piece bedding set was originally over $250. It's priced at $42.50.

For new moms there is a huge selection of diaper bags. We found one designer bag for $35, but for $6 you can walk away with a brand new Eddie Bauer diaper bag.

While most of the items on consignment are used, there is a strict process to make sure every item is a quality one.

"We have stations that check in, we check in the consignor, make sure they have tagged the items correctly, that they are displayed nicely, also that the merchandise is free of stains, rips, holes, anything that might be something someone would not purchase," said Sara Elkins with Just Between Friends.

There are four sales in the Houston area. The first sale opens to the public Friday in Pearland at 4202 W. Walnut Street from 9am to 8pm. Saturday is half price day and the sale hours are 9am to 3pm.
