Spring break is around the corner and if you're planning a "stay-cation" rather than a vacation because of the economy, you may want to reconsider.Even if it's not in your budget to plan a spring break vacation, now is the time to start thinking about your summer travel plans. Travel experts say the deals right now are unprecedented.

Cheap flights, half price cruises and discounts at Disney. It still may not be enough to get some Houstonians to travel for spring break.

"No probably not, not until the economy gets better because it's kind of depressing right now and kind of scary," said

If you have dreamed of taking a trip at 30-50% off, now may be the time to start planning.

Ray Schutter with West University Travel says from luxurious five star cruises to a trip to Las Vegas, there is something for everyone.

"There are some really good deals out here," said Schutter. "The name of the game is to figure out where you want to go."

Schutter said for families planning a trip, he suggests taking advantage of a Disney deal.

In Florida, the resort is offering a seven-night vacation package at one of its on-site hotels for the price of four nights. The price is only $1,400 and it includes admission to the park.

If you'd rather take your family on an Alaskan cruise to check out snowcapped mountains and mighty glaciers, Princess Cruises has a special. For $1,999 a family of four can take a seven night cruise.

"A family of four for $2,000, that's the cruise, the room, the port fees," said Schutter.

If you are looking for a budget cruise, Carnival has a four night cruise out of Galveston to Cozumel for $413 a person.

"That's a hundred bucks a day," said Schutter.

Hotels in Las Vegas are at an all-time low, some offering deals as little as $30-$60 a night. At the Bellagio, rooms during the week are $109 compared to the weekend rate that normally starts at $250.

Want to go to the Rocky Mountain State? Rooms are $55 a night at a ski resort in Winter Park, Colorado. The rate includes lift tickets.

"It's beautiful to go to Colorado," said Schutter.

If you want to travel somewhere sunny, Continental right now is offering flights to Los Angeles or San Diego for under $140 one way.

Schutter cautions, "If you have the wherewithal, and you've got to have the money, don't go borrow the money and don't use your credit card if you can help it, there are some really nice places to go."

Just an editorial note, ABC13 is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Corporation.
