Kershaw County Sheriff's Capt. David Thomley says the teen shot his brother in the face Monday. The teen was charged Tuesday with murder, but deputies aren't releasing his name because of his age.

Thomley said the boys and an 8-year-old sibling were home alone with their 15-year-old sister about 35 miles north of Columbia because school had been canceled due to the threat of snow.

Authorities say the children's father has been charged with unlawful neglect because he left a loaded shotgun against a bedroom wall.

Thomley did not know if the family had an attorney. A message was left at a listing for the home.
