Houston school Superintendent Dr. Abe Saavedra has touted a new report that shows HISD students significantly outperforming other students in large school districts. A report by the National Center for Educational Achievement shows that out of the eight largest school districts in Texas, HISD has 21 high performing schools, compared with 13 for the other seven districts combined. The NCEA report also shows HISD students significantly outperforming statewide counterparts in college-readiness tests.

"In this district, we pay attention not only to the minimum standards, but we play a lot of attention to the upper level performance, students scoring at college readiness levels," said Dr. Saavedra.
