The two-year-old boy was reported missing around 3:30pm. Police were called out and searched from the air in a helicopter and on the ground with K-9 units. An officer in the chopper spotted child face down in White Oak Bayou under the North Freeway.
The pilot of the aircraft landed the chopper in the grassy area next to the bayou. One of the officers in the helicopter jumped into action.
"The helicopter made a decision to make an emergency landing in an attempt to save the child's life," said Sgt. Stuart Red with the Houston Police Department. "The helicopter landed, the observer, the officer riding as an observer in the helicopter, got out of the helicopter, dove into the bayou, pulled the child from the bayou and began CPR on the child."
The officer continued CPR until paramedics arrived. That child was then taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where we learned he later died.
