Witnesses say the dogs broke out of their pen next to a carwash on 43rd near Yale in northwest Houston Sunday morning. They ran straight toward a neighbor's house.

"The dogs jumped on him and grabbed him and took him down and just started shaking him," said witness Dominick Franklin.

Witnesses say the dogs mauled the man's face. City workers who happened to be in the area beat the animals with sticks until police arrived.

The dogs have been confiscated.
